New Delhi, 20 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended profound felicitations to the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel and their families on Saturday, marking the force's 62nd Raising Day with a stirring message that extolled their exemplary dedication as a bedrock of national security amid challenging terrains and operational rigors.
In an official post on X, the Prime Minister articulated: On the Raising Day of the Sashastra Seema Bal, I extend my greetings to all personnel associated with this force. SSB’s unwavering dedication reflects the highest traditions of service. Their sense of duty remains a strong pillar of our nation’s safety. From challenging terrains to demanding operational conditions, the SSB stands ever vigilant. Wishing them the very best in their endeavours ahead.
This resonant endorsement underscores the SSB's evolution since its inception on December 20, 1963, as the Special Services Bureau—rechristened in 2001 to guard India's 1,751-km Indo-Nepal and 699-km Indo-Bhutan borders—evolving from a civil defense outfit into a vanguard against smuggling, infiltration, and trans-border crimes while fostering brotherhood and disaster relief.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah graced the central celebrations at the SSB's Central Training Centre in Sapri, Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, commencing at 11:30 a.m., where he honored martyrs and lauded the force's motto of Service, Security, and Brotherhood alongside displays of operational prowess and cultural vignettes. Comprising over 90,000 personnel across 74 battalions, the SSB exemplifies vigilance in remote Himalayan outposts, intelligence gathering, and community outreach, as echoed in tributes from state leaders affirming its indispensable role on this milestone December 20, 2025.
