New Delhi, 20 December (H.S.): Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal will travel to Brussels on January 8, 2026, to advance negotiations on the proposed India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA). During his visit, he is expected to hold detailed discussions with Maroš Šefčovič, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Trade.

Official sources informed on Saturday that the talks on the proposed trade agreement between India and the European Union have entered the final phase. Minister Goyal will meet Šefčovič during his two-day visit from January 8 to 9, aimed at accelerating progress on the long-pending pact.

Before arriving in Brussels, Goyal will make an official stop in Liechtenstein on January 7, where he is likely to hold meetings focused on strengthening bilateral economic partnerships and exploring investment opportunities. He will then proceed to Brussels for the ministerial-level trade discussions.

This high-level visit comes at a crucial juncture in the ongoing negotiations for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, which both sides hope to conclude soon. The emphasis, officials say, is on achieving a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually beneficial deal that can significantly enhance bilateral trade, investment flows, and strategic cooperation.

The renewed momentum in the FTA talks reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of expanding India’s global trade partnerships and integrating India’s economy more deeply with major world markets. Under his leadership, India has been actively pursuing modern, fair, and forward-looking trade agreements, designed to boost exports and create new opportunities for industries and entrepreneurs.

Goyal’s upcoming visit is expected to reaffirm India’s commitment to this vision and mark another important step toward building a stronger economic bridge between New Delhi and Brussels.
