TMC hits back before PM Modi's Ranaghat rally: Bengal's suffering is because of you

Kolkata, 20 December (H.S.): Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Ranaghat on Saturday, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) launched a scathing attack on the central government on Friday night on X (formerly Twitter), accusing it of discriminating against Bengal.

Prime Minister Modi had posted on X that he would address a BJP rally in Ranaghat on Saturday afternoon, December 20. He said that the people of West Bengal are benefiting from the central government's welfare schemes, but are also suffering in every sector due to the misgovernance of the Trinamool Congress.

The PM alleged that the Trinamool Congress's corruption and intimidation have crossed all limits, for which the BJP is the hope of the people of Bengal.

The Trinamool Congress responded sharply on Friday night from its official X handle, calling PM Modi the Mann Ki Baat Prime Minister. The party said, You’re right, Mr. Mann-Ki-Baat Prime Minister. Bengal is suffering. But Bengal is suffering because of you.

The Trinamool Congress alleged that the central government is withholding nearly two lakh crore rupees of legitimate dues owed to Bengal, while more than six and a half lakh crore rupees in GST and direct taxes have been collected from the state between 2017-18 and 2023-24.

The party alleged that PM Modi insults Bengal's cultural, spiritual, and civilizational symbols at every opportunity.

The Trinamool Congress claimed that people in Bengal are being branded as Bangladeshis, detained, and even illegally deported simply for speaking their mother tongue.

The party alleged that the central government misuses money and muscle power, weaponizes central agencies, and deliberately tarnishes Bengal's image by deploying Godi media (biased media).

Despite all these allegations, the Trinamool Congress said that Bengal welcomes guests. The party proudly mentioned that Bengal received the second-highest number of foreign tourists in the country last year and that they will welcome PM Modi as well. However, the Trinamool Congress issued a clear warning, stating, But don't be under any illusion. The people of Bengal will reject you in 2026, just as they have done in every election before.
