Kolkata, 19 December (H.S.): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya on Friday expressed serious concern over the vandalism at Chhayanaut Bhaban, a historic cultural institution in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. He described the incident as an attack by an Islamic mob and termed it a direct assault on freedom of expression and culture.

Amit Malviya posted on the social media platform X, stating that the developments unfolding in Bangladesh are extremely worrying. According to him, there are continuous attacks on media institutions, journalists, and cultural centers, which are being carried out under Islamic pressure and threats.

The BJP leader called this a warning, saying that when fundamentalism is encouraged and law and order are disregarded, society begins to disintegrate in this manner. He claimed that a similar situation is developing in West Bengal.

Targeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Amit Malviya said that years of political patronage, the erosion of institutions, and selective silence on certain issues have pushed the state onto a dangerous path. He apprehended that if Mamata Banerjee's government remains in power after 2026, the consequences for Bengal will be irreparable.

In his post, he stated that where mob rule prevails and the state remains a silent spectator, culture, free expression, and democracy cannot survive.
