Kolkata, 19 December (H.S.): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has levelled serious allegations against the central government regarding the new form of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). The party said in a post on the social media platform X on Friday that MNREGA, considered the backbone of rural India, has not been reformed but destroyed.
The Trinamool Congress claimed that its MPs staged a continuous 12-hour protest. The party alleged that the central government has weakened MNREGA, directly attacking the livelihoods of millions of rural laborers whose lives depended on guaranteed work and timely wages.
The post stated that the livelihoods of the laborers have been sacrificed to ideological arrogance due to the central government's policies. The Trinamool Congress also alleged that removing Mahatma Gandhi's name from the scheme exposes the BJP's ideological hatred towards Gandhian values.
The TMC said that the same forces that opposed Gandhiji during his lifetime are now trying to erase him through legislation. The party warned that history will clearly remember this.
According to the Trinamool Congress, MNREGA was created to empower the poor, but it has been destroyed to satisfy the arrogance of power.
