18 Dec (HS): During an encounter between the Khuthan police team and criminals
in the Shahganj police station area of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday
morning, a notorious cow smuggler was injured in police retaliation, while one
of his accomplices was arrested after a police cordon and search operation.
Police recovered a Swift car without a number plate, a country-made pistol, two
empty cartridges, and cash from the scene.
Giving
information in this regard on Thursday, Shahganj Circle Officer Ajit Kumar
Singh said that on the night of December 17, Khuthan Police Station Officer
Chandan Kumar Rai was present at the Marhat culvert with the police and crime
team. Meanwhile, an informant reported that a car without a number plate was
approaching the Marhat culvert from Gabhiran. Based on the information, the
police cordoned off the area and began checking.
Shortly
after, when a suspicious car arrived, the police attempted to stop it, but the
criminals in the car opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, Rohit Yadav,
son of Ramdhari Yadav, resident of village Ghughuri Sultanpur, Sarpataha police
station, Jaunpur district, was injured by a bullet, while another criminal
escaped. Later, the police surrounded the area and arrested the absconding
accused, Sajid, son of Abrar Ahmed, resident of Patela, Khuthan police station.
The
injured accused was sent to CHC Khuthan for treatment, from where he was
referred to the district hospital. Police have registered a case under the Arms
Act at Khuthan police station and have initiated further action.According to
the police, the injured accused, Rohit Yadav, faces several serious criminal
charges in various districts, including cow smuggling, the Gangster Act, the
NDPS Act, and the Arms Act. A case has also been filed against the arrested
accused, Sajid, under relevant sections. They were found in possession of a
white Swift car without a number plate, a pistol, cartridges, and Rs. 950 in
cash.
