Delhi, 15 December (H.S.): In preparation for the 2026 Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday appointed senior leaders to spearhead its campaign efforts in two key states — Tamil Nadu and Assam.

According to a formal communication issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh, Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been designated as the election in-charge for Tamil Nadu, while party National Vice President Baijayant “Jay” Panda will serve as the election in-charge for Assam.

In Tamil Nadu, Goyal will be supported by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and senior leader Muralidhar Mohol as co-incharges, while in Assam, Sunil Sharma and Darshana Jardosh have been named as co-incharges to assist Panda in managing the campaign strategy and coordination.

The appointments come as the BJP begins gearing up for crucial electoral contests in both southern and northeastern regions next year. Tamil Nadu and Assam are scheduled to hold their state assembly elections in 2026, and the central leadership’s latest announcement underscores the party’s intent to strengthen its organisational presence and expand its voter outreach ahead of the polls.

Political observers view these assignments as part of the BJP’s broader election management strategy, focusing on balancing regional sensitivities, coalition equations, and local leadership coordination. With both Piyush Goyal and Baijayant Panda considered articulate and organisationally sharp, their roles are expected to be pivotal in shaping the party’s campaign narratives in their respective states.
