Delhi, 29 November (H.S.): The Patiala House Court in Delhi on Saturday extended the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) custody of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi, for seven more days. Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma passed the order after hearing the NIA’s plea seeking an extension for further interrogation.

Anmol Bishnoi’s initial remand period ended on Saturday, following which the NIA produced him before the court. Representing the agency, advocate Rahul Tyagi argued that Bishnoi’s further custodial interrogation was essential to uncover additional details in the ongoing investigation.

Accepting the NIA’s request, the court ordered an extension of his custody till December 6.The NIA had arrested Anmol Bishnoi on November 19 at Delhi Airport after his deportation from the United States. Following his arrest, the court initially sent him to NIA custody until November 29.

Bishnoi is an accused in the murder case of Maharashtra-based NCP leader Baba Siddique. His asylum request to a U.S. court was earlier rejected, leading to his deportation to India.Declared a proclaimed offender in January this year, Bishnoi faces more than 22 criminal cases across India. Investigative agencies are also probing his alleged involvement in the May 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

According to investigators, after Moosewala’s killing, Bishnoi fled to the United States in 2022 on a forged passport. Authorities allege that he manages extortion syndicates for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, operating across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
