Bengaluru, July 16 (HS): Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi on Thursday said the collaboration between the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is playing a pivotal role in implementing the Centre's 'One Nation, One Time' initiative.

Speaking after visiting the ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru, Joshi said the initiative aims to establish a precise, secure, resilient and indigenous national time dissemination system that will provide a unified and accurate time reference for critical sectors.

He said the initiative would benefit sectors such as banking, telecommunications, power, defence, transportation and stock exchanges, while strengthening India's digital infrastructure, national security and technological self-reliance.

The Minister highlighted the successful Proof of Concept using Precision Time Protocol (PTP) technology between the Regional Reference Standard Laboratory (RRSL), Bengaluru, and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Chennai, describing it as a major milestone in developing India's national time synchronisation infrastructure.

Joshi said ISRO continues to exemplify India's scientific excellence, technological innovation and self-reliance. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the organisation has made significant contributions towards the vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Congratulating scientists, engineers and technical professionals of the Department of Consumer Affairs, CSIR-NPL and ISRO, the Minister said their efforts had laid the foundation for a reliable and indigenous national time system.

During his visit, Joshi also interacted with ISRO scientists and engineers and appreciated their contribution to India's space programme. He said the country's achievements in the space sector have enhanced India's global standing and inspired the younger generation.
