Bareilly,
13 Nov (HS): On Thursday, UP Governor Anandiben Patel advised universities to
guarantee 100% attendance in exams and to halt the practice of holding back
paper exams. Addressing the 23rd convocation event of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule
Rohilkhand University here, the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the
state universities, stated that universities should quit holding back-paper
exams. All examinations need 100%
attendance. Back or additional papers are tests offered for students who have
failed one or more subjects. Students
must pass such exams in order to receive their degrees.
Patel
highlighted the achievements of female students, saying, It is heartening
to see girl students excelling in every field. But we must also determine why
boys are falling behind and take appropriate action.”
She
applauded the university's decision to bestow the lifetime achievement award,
calling it a great gesture, and encouraged students to dream big and apply
their expertise for national advancement.
Dreams are those that prevent us from falling asleep rather than those
that keep us awake. Think big,
think strong, she advised pupils.
During the ceremony, Patel presented
the lifetime achievement award to Jharkhand governor and university alumni
Santosh Kumar Gangwar and praised the efforts of Anganwadi workers. She also
published booklets for primary schools and pushed educational institutions to
promote the singing of Vande Mataram in honor of its 150th anniversary. Patel
expressed concern at the recent tragedy in Delhi, saying it was regrettable
that educated individuals were involved in such a crime, and that it requires
us to be vigilant and introspective.
