New Delhi, October 3(HS): India on Friday firmly rejected allegations made by Bangladesh’s Interim Government Adviser on Home Affairs, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, and accused Dhaka’s administration of failing to maintain law and order.
At the weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal dismissed Chowdhury’s claims, calling them “false and baseless.” He said, “The interim government in Bangladesh has been unable to maintain law and order. It routinely shifts blame onto others instead of addressing its internal challenges.”
Jaiswal advised the Bangladeshi authorities to conduct a serious investigation into the violence and arson carried out by local extremists in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, where minority communities have been facing attacks and land-grabbing incidents.
The controversy emerged after Jahangir Alam Chowdhury alleged that elements linked to the Government of India and supporters of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were behind unrest in the hill region, including attempts to disrupt the Durga Puja festivities.
