PROVO, Utah , 28 October (H.S.): A Utah judge ruled on Monday that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk, will be allowed to wear civilian clothes during his pre-trial hearings.Judge Tony Graf made the decision to avoid prejudicing potential jurors and to uphold Robinson's presumption of innocence.
However, acknowledging the serious nature of the charges and the need for courtroom security, Judge Graf ordered that Robinson must remain in restraints, though he barred any photography or video of the restraints in court.
Robinson faces seven charges, including aggravated murder, in connection with the September 12 shooting at Utah Valley University. Prosecutors have stated they are seeking the death penalty.
Robinson, who was not physically present for Monday's virtual hearing, is scheduled for his next in-person court appearance on January 16.
