
Kolkata, 25 October (H.S.): Dr. Dilip Tirkey, the President of Hockey India and former captain of the Indian men's hockey team, was honored with the prestigious 'Lifetime Achievement Award' by the Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club (CSJC). The award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to Indian sports, was presented on Friday by former Indian cricket captain and ex-BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, during a ceremony in Kolkata.
A stalwart of Indian hockey, Dr. Tirkey is celebrated as one of the best defenders the country has ever produced. He has an illustrious international career, having represented India in 412 matches, including three Olympic Games in 1996, 2000, and 2004.
Since assuming the presidency of Hockey India, Dr. Tirkey has initiated numerous developmental and structural reforms to propel the sport to new heights, infusing it with renewed direction and momentum across the nation.
