New Delhi, 9 January (H.S.): Heart transplant was successful for the second time in Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Thursday. For this, the heart of a 23-year-old brain dead patient was transported from Gangaram Hospital through a green corridor with the help of Delhi Traffic Police. It was successfully transplanted in a 19-year-old youth. The patient is currently under the doctor's supervision in the ICU.
This complex operation was completed in six hours by Dr. Palash Iyer, Dr. Puneet Agarwal, Dr. Ranjit Nath, Dr. Jaswinder Kohli along with about a dozen staff under the leadership of Dr. Vijay Grover, head of RML's Cardiology Department and Professor Dr. Narendra Singh Jhajharia.
Head of Cardiology Department Dr. Vijay Grover said that this is the second time a successful heart transplant has been done. Earlier, a successful transplant was done two years ago. This achievement is a milestone for the institute, which has been repeated again today. He said that the 19-year-old youth was waiting for a heart for the last three months. On Wednesday, a 23-year-old man died of brain death at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
After which the kidney and liver of the deceased donor were given to a patient in the same hospital and his heart was brought from Ganga Ram Hospital through a green corridor with the help of traffic police. The surgery was started on Wednesday night which lasted for six hours and was successful. Expressing happiness, he said that this is a proud moment for our entire team as we have achieved this important feat for the second time.
RML Director and Medical Superintendent Dr Ajay Shukla congratulated the entire team. He said that this achievement is a milestone for the hospital and the institute which the entire team of cardiology has achieved with tireless hard work. Many congratulations to Dr. Grover, Dr. Narendra and CTVS team of this team, Dr. Jaswinder along with the entire cardiac anesthesia team, all the nursing staff, OT and other employees for doing commendable work to take the institute forward. This achievement will remain an inspiration for the institute in the coming years.
