Kolkata, 8 January (H.S.): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has officially announced its unconditional support for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. According to sources, TMC will not field any candidates in Delhi and will instead campaign for AAP.
Expressing gratitude, Delhi Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal shared his appreciation on social media. He wrote on X, “TMC has announced support to AAP in Delhi elections. I am personally grateful to Mamata Didi. Thank you, Didi. You have always supported and blessed us in our good and bad times.”
Though TMC's organization in Delhi is not very strong, its support is expected to benefit AAP, particularly in constituencies with a significant Bengali-speaking population. TMC last contested elections in Delhi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. While the results were not favorable, the party gained visibility and welcomed several prominent figures into its fold later.
Notably, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has also announced its unconditional support for AAP in this election.
TMC’s decision holds political significance as another INDI bloc ally, the Congress, is contesting in Delhi. Both TMC and SP have chosen to back AAP instead of Congress, signaling shifting alliances within the opposition bloc.
TMC’s move comes amid Congress’s struggles within the INDI bloc, particularly after recent electoral setbacks in Haryana and Maharashtra. AAP, which has openly called for Congress to be excluded from the alliance in Delhi, seems to have gained favor among regional allies.
