New Delhi, 06 January (HS): The Supreme Court has refused to hear a petition challenging the appointment of a Delhi government official as Delhi Waqf Board administrator. A bench headed by Justice MM Sundaresh asked the petitioner's lawyer to go to Delhi High Court.

The petition was filed by Zameer Ahmed Jumlana. The petition sought a stay on the order of Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena appointing Delhi Government Chief Secretary (Home) Ashwini Kumar as the administrator of Delhi Waqf Board and IAS Azimul Haque as the CEO of Delhi Waqf Board. The petition said that the term of the Delhi Waqf Board ended on August 26, 2023 and no board was formed after that. It was said in the petition that the Lieutenant Governor has misused the powers given to him under the Delhi Waqf Board by appointing an administrator and CEO.
