New Delhi, 7 January (H.S.): The Central Government has approved a fixed place within the Rashtriya Smriti complex to build the mausoleum of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee. The Rashtriya Smriti complex is a part of the Rajghat complex. Pranab Mukherjee's daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee gave this information.
In this regard, Sharmistha Mukherjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and expressed her gratitude to him. Pranab Mukherjee died on 31 August 2020.
Sharing the information on her social media account, Sharmistha Mukherjee said that she met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed her heartfelt gratitude for his government's decision to build a memorial for Baba. This is also very important because we did not ask for it. I am very overwhelmed by this unexpected but really kind step of the Prime Minister.
Sharmishtha Mukherjee further said that Baba used to say that state honors should not be asked for, they should be received. She thanked the Prime Minister and said that he did this in memory of Baba. It does not matter to Baba, he has been beyond praise or criticism. But there are no words to express this happiness for his daughter.
Sharmishtha Mukherjee also shared a copy of the order of the Central Government on X.
On behalf of the Central Government, the Ministry of Urban and Housing has written in its order, The competent authority has approved a designated site within the Rashtriya Smriti complex (a part of the Rajghat complex) to establish the Samadhi of the late Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India. This order is dated January 1, 2025.
