Guwahati, 30 January (HS): On the 77th martyrdom day of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, a tribute program was organized at Rajiv Bhavan, Assam Pradesh Congress Headquarters on Thursday. Rajya Sabha member and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh paid tribute to Gandhiji by lighting a lamp on this occasion and said that for the last 10-11 years BJP has been running propaganda against the freedom fighters of the country. He alleged that those who did not make any sacrifice for the independence of the country are being worshiped, while the death of freedom fighters is being insulted.

Digvijay Singh said that Congress will always carry forward Gandhiji's principle of non-violence and truth and with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi, Congress will rule the whole country to protect the Constitution and democracy. He expressed confidence that in 2026, a government led by Congress will also be formed in Assam.

Assam Pradesh Congress President Bhupen Kumar Bora, while presiding over the program, said that Gandhiji had sacrificed his life and his last words were 'Hey Ram'. Congress will always protect the democracy and constitution of the country by adopting his principles and policies.

On this occasion, Bihar Pradesh Congress President Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh also attended the program and strongly criticized the BJP and RSS. He said that after the assassination of Gandhiji, efforts are being made to destroy his ideals as well.

During the program, Congress leaders and workers recalled the ideals of Gandhiji and pledged to unite to form a Congress government in Assam in 2026. Many Congress leaders and workers were present on the occasion. Winners of an essay competition based on the ideals of Gandhiji were honored.
