Delhi, 30 January (H.S.) : Comprehensive social security cover for workers will be ready by March this year. For this, the Central and State Governments will together form three committees, which will consult and develop a sustainable model for welfare measures. Union Minister of Labor and Employment and Youth Affairs Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya gave this information on Thursday during a two-day national conference with Labor Ministers and Secretaries of States and Union Territories in New Delhi.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, it was said that a consensus was reached on the framework of comprehensive social security after deliberations on the issue in a two-day workshop chaired by the Union Labor and Employment Minister with Labor Ministers and Labor Secretaries of States and Union Territories, which concluded today. On this occasion, Dr. Mandaviya said that worker welfare for gig and platform workers as well as building and construction workers is a top priority for the Government of India.

During the five sessions that lasted for two days, more than ten topics were discussed extensively and inputs were collected. Along with this, three committees of five states each were constituted. Based on the discussions held during the workshop, these committees will deliberate and prepare a sustainable model for comprehensive social security coverage for workers, which will be presented in March 2025.

The Union Minister, while taking note of the discussions and suggestions made during the two-day workshop, laid out a detailed action plan for all stakeholders during his address. He emphasized that the Ministry is committed to working closely with the state governments to formulate various reforms and initiatives to ensure the welfare of organized and unorganized workers.

The meeting discussed comprehensive and sustainable welfare programs providing pension, health care, life and accident insurance etc. The meeting, chaired by Dr. Mandaviya, was attended by Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Ms. Shobha Karandlaje, Labor Ministers of various States / Union Territories, Secretary, Ministry of Labor and Employment, Sumita Dawra and senior officials of States / Union Territories during the workshop.
