Kolkata, 3 Jauary (H.S.): In a touching display of humanity, the Border Security Force (BSF) arranged for a woman from Bangladesh to see her deceased brother one last time along the India-Bangladesh border. The meeting occurred at the Mustafapur Border Outpost (BOP) in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, where the 67 Battalion of the BSF is stationed.

Humanitarian Gesture Amidst Border Tensions

A local panchayat member from Gangulia village approached BSF officials with the news of the demise of Abdul Khalid Mandal, a resident of Gangulia. His sister, who had moved to Sardar Baripota in Bangladesh after marriage, expressed her wish to bid him a final farewell.

Recognizing the deep emotional significance of the request, the BSF company commander swiftly coordinated with his counterpart in the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Arrangements were made to bring Mandal’s sister and her family members to the zero line of the International Border Barrier (IBBR). Under strict BSF supervision, Mandal’s bier was carried from Gangulia to the zero line, where BGB personnel escorted his sister and her family to the designated spot.

Emotional Visit

The brief yet deeply emotional meeting between the siblings was a poignant reminder that human bonds remain strong despite geographical and political divisions. Mandal’s sister had once lived in India but had relocated to Bangladesh after marriage.

Following the farewell, Mandal’s mortal remains were taken back to Gangulia for the final rites. Expressing gratitude, the bereaved family acknowledged the compassionate efforts of both the BSF and BGB.

BSF DIG and South Bengal Frontier spokesperson N.K. Pandey stated, BSF personnel not only guard the nation’s borders tirelessly but also extend their support to the social needs of people living along the border.
