Guwahati, 17 January (HS): The jersey unveiling ceremony of the Assam team for the upcoming 38th National Games to be held in Uttarakhand will be held on January 19 at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati. Assam Olympic Association Secretary Laxmikant Konwar said that this program will be organized by the Assam Olympic Association in collaboration with the Sports and Youth Welfare Department of the Government of Assam, in which the Assam team will be given a formal farewell for the National Games.

Senior Union Minister and President of Assam Olympic Association Sarbananda Sonowal, two senior vice presidents of the association and cabinet ministers of Assam government Pijush Hazarika, Jayantmalla Barua as well as Sports Minister Nandita Garlosa will also be present in this program.

Apart from this, many other players and representatives of the organization including Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Mission Head of Assam Team of Uttarakhand National Games, Olympic medalist and the only player of the state to be awarded Khel Ratna, Lovelyna Borgohain, Olympian archer Jayanta Talukdar and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Nayanmoni Sakia will also attend the program.

It was also told that the Assam Olympic Association will send a team of about 30 players in 22 sports for the 38th National Games. The Air travel of Assam team has also been arranged with the cooperation of the Assam government.

Earlier, in the last National Games, Assam had secured 12th position by winning 56 medals. This time the Assam team will also have Olympians, Commonwealth and Asian Games medal winners. This time after 17 years, Assam's men's football team has qualified to participate in the National Games. It may be mentioned that in the 33rd National Games held in Assam in 2007, Assam's men's football team won the gold medal.
