New Delhi, 17 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the six-day India Mobility Global Expo-2025 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan in the national capital Delhi. It is India's largest mobility expo. The expo is being organized at three different locations in India Expo Center and Mart in Greater Noida besides Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. On this occasion, the Prime Minister said that the Make in India initiative has played a big role in the development of the auto industry. The Make in India initiative has got a boost from the PLI scheme. The PLI scheme has helped in sales of more than Rs 2.25 lakh crore. The scheme has created more than 1.5 lakh direct jobs in the auto sector.
He said that today's India is full of aspirations, full of youth energy. We see this aspiration in India's automotive industry. In the last year, India's auto industry has grown by about 12 percent. Following the mantra of Make in India, Make for the World, exports are also increasing now. The journey of developed India is going to be a journey of unprecedented transformation and manifold expansion of the mobility sector.
The Prime Minister said that the sale of about 2.5 crore cars in a year shows how fast the demand is growing in India. Talking about the passenger vehicle market, we are third in the world. At one time, the reason for low car sales in India was the lack of good quality roads, but today this situation is changing. Ease of travel is now a big priority for India. In last year's budget, more than Rs 11 lakh crore was allocated for infrastructure development. Today India has a network of multi-lane national highways. Due to the new National Logistics Policy, India is going to become the most competitive logistics country in the world. The number of vehicles sold in India every year is more than the population of many countries. Modi said that 25 crore people have come out of poverty and this neo-middle class is a potential buyer of vehicles. The growing middle class, rapid urbanization and affordable vehicles will boost the auto sector in India.
In his address, the Prime Minister recalled the contribution of former Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata and former Suzuki Motor Corporation Chairman Osamu Suzuki to India's auto sector. He said, Today, on this big occasion of India's auto sector, I would like to remember Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki. Both these giants have made a huge contribution to fulfilling the dream of the Indian middle class in the auto sector. I am sure that their legacy will continue to inspire India's entire mobility sector.
Recalling his statement at the last Mobility Expo, the Prime Minister said that the last time he came to the Expo, the Lok Sabha elections were not far away. At that time, due to the trust of all of you, I had said that I will definitely come to 'Bharat Mobility Expo' next time too. He said that the country blessed us for the third time.
The Prime Minister said that this year the scope of Mobility Expo in India has increased a lot. Last time more than 800 exhibitors participated, more than 1.5 lakh people visited. This time the expo is being held at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka and India Expo Center in Greater Noida along with Bharat Mandapam. A large number of people will come here in the coming 5-6 days. Many new vehicles are also going to be launched here. This shows how much positivity there is about the future of mobility in India.
On this occasion, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that today India Mobility Global Expo 2025 has become the world's second largest event in automobile and related trade. The entire end-to-end value chain has come together. The country is getting the benefit of Prime Minister Modi's vision. India is the largest manufacturer of three-wheelers and tractors today. India is the largest market for two-wheelers globally.
Union Steel and Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that India Mobility Global Expo 2025 showcases the latest advancements in the Indian automobile industry, with an emphasis on environmentally friendly technology and sustainable mobility solutions. The need for clean transportation has never been more urgent. By adopting sustainable transportation solutions, we can improve public health, reduce our carbon footprint and build a cleaner and greener future for generations to come.
He said India's automobile industry is one of the most significant contributors to our economy. It is currently the third largest automobile market globally, generating around 7 per cent of the national GDP and employing over 3.7 crore people.
