Chandigarh, January 10 (HS): The dispute that has been going on for many months within the Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab took a new turn on Friday when Sukhbir Badal's resignation from the post of Akali Dal President was accepted in the executive meeting. Now the Akali Dal will be reorganized.

In fact, Sukhbir Singh Badal resigned from the post of Akali Dal President on November 16 last year. After this, his resignation was accepted in the Akali Dal Executive Meeting held in Chandigarh on Friday evening. Sukhbir thanked all the workers who supported him. Now the Shiromani Akali Dal will be reorganized and a committee has been formed in this regard which will make new members. After Sukhbir Badal resigned, the Akali Dal appointed Balwinder Singh Bhundar as the acting president of the party. Earlier, senior Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema had posted on Facebook that Shiromani Akali Dal can never think of reversing the decision of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. We have taken our side with Singh Sahiban regarding the legal hurdles facing the party and the threat to the existence of the party, the decision on which is still pending. No order has been issued by Singh Sahiban yet, but some people are trying to take political advantage by making false statements

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said that a membership campaign will be run from January 20 to February 20. After this, the party president will be elected on March 1. Former minister Gulzar Singh Ranike will play the role of election officer in the organization. The party has set a target of making 25 lakh members.
