New Delhi, 10 January (H.S.): The Supreme Court has refused to hear petitions challenging the provision of delimitation in the law of 33 percent women reservation in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies. A bench headed by Justice Bela M Trivedi gave this order.
The court refused to hear the petition of Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Jaya Thakur, saying that at the time when this petition was filed, it was a Bill, whereas now it has become a law. The court asked the National Federation of Indian Women to first go to the High Court.
The petition of the National Federation of Indian Women demanded that the provision of delimitation in the law of 33 percent women reservation in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies be removed. It is noteworthy that in 2023, Parliament passed a law regarding women reservation. In this law, provision has been made to implement women reservation after delimitation. If reservation is implemented after delimitation, it will be implemented after 2024.
