Lakhimpur (Assam), 4 September (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma reached Lakhimpur today on the second day of his four-day tour of five districts of Upper Assam. Here the Chief Minister took stock of various schemes. Talking to the media during this, the Chief Minister said that the steps taken for the drainage of legacy waste in North Lakhimpur will rejuvenate the Sumdiri river and give it a new life.
He said that the whole process has helped revive 16 bighas of land. This land will now be upgraded to Urban Forest Retreat Zone. Its main goal is to make the environment balanced. This urban forest, covering about 5.5 acres of land, will have indigenous variety of plants planted using 'Miyawaki' technology (create dense forests with native plants), walking and cycling paths and basic public amenities, food court and other recreational facilities.
While talking to the media, the Chief Minister said that today he has inaugurated the garbage disposal machine in Lakhimpur. This will help a lot in the direction of cleanliness. He said that a bus terminus is being built here. It will be ready by next August. Also, the work of the two phases of Lakhimpur Stadium will also be completed by August.
The Chief Minister said that the work of the Ghunakhuti bridge of Dhakwakhana, costing about four hundred crore rupees, has been done at a slow pace so far due to floods. This season the work will be done at a faster pace. He said that there will be 42 pilings in it, which are called well piles. Efforts will be made to make all these pilings before the rains come, so that the work above continues even in the event of floods. Its connecting road has almost come into its form. At the same time, he will see the land for ROB today.
The Chief Minister said that today he has inspected all the projects going on in Lakhimpur. Necessary guidelines have also been given in connection with the schemes. This will speed up the work of the schemes in the coming time.
The Chief Minister said that during this time the district's guardian minister Atul Bora and local MLA Manab Deka were also present with him. On the question of journalists, the Chief Minister said that a college has also been built in Lakhimpur. Along with the work of medical college, various types of works have been done. The Chief Minister said that so much work had never been done in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts before in the history of indipendence.
He said that he will come to Lakhimpur again after two months to inaugurate another bridge and the work being done in the circuit house and jail.
It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Dr. Sarma is on his four-day tour of five districts of Upper Assam from Tuesday. In this connection, on Tuesday, the Chief Minister participated in various programs at Sotia in Sonitpur district and other places. Today he took stock of the schemes in Lakhimpur. A cabinet meeting is also going to be held in Lakhimpur today.
