New Dehil, 19 September (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit the United States of America on September 21-23. During the
visit, the PM will take part in the fourth Quad Leaders’ Summit in
Wilmington, Delaware, which is being hosted by the President of the United States
of America, Joseph R. Biden, Jr. on September 21, according to Ministry of External Affairs Foreign Secretary
Vikram Misri on Thursday.
On September 23, Modi will address the ‘Summit of the
Future’ at the United Nations General
Assembly in New York. In New York, the Prime Minister will address a
gathering of the Indian community on September 22, Misri said
while briefing media on Modi’s visit.
Prime Minister would also be
interacting with CEOs of leading US-based companies to foster greater
collaborations between the two countries in the cutting-edge areas of AI,
quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology.
“It gives the Prime Minister the
opportunity to thank President Biden for his pioneering role in strengthening
the India-US relationship and for the several new initiatives such as the
Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies which was taken during the
time that President Biden has been at the helm in the United States,” Misri
added.
At the Quad Summit, the leaders will
review the progress achieved by the Quad over the last one year and set the
agenda for the year ahead to assist the countries of the Indo-Pacific region in
meeting their development goals and aspirations.
Agreements related to the
Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and the India-US Drug Framework will also be
exchanged during Modi’s visit to the US. Modi will also meet with Japan’s Prime
Minister Kishida and Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during his
time in the US.
But the foreign secretary didn’t
confirm the meeting between PM Modi and republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, though the former President has already signalled
their prospective meeting terming Modi as a ‘Fantastic Man’.
“He’s fantastic. I mean, fantastic,
man. A lot of these leaders are fantastic. A lot of these leaders are fantastic.
They’re not a little bit backward. You know the expression, they’re at the top
of their game and they use it against us. But India is very tough, Brazil is
very tough. I can tell you, everyone, “Trump told supporters at a town hall in
Flint, Michigan on Tuesday.
Modi and Biden last met in person in
July this year, when they interacted briefly on the sidelines of the G7 Summit
in Italy. They spoke over the phone in August after Modi’s visit to Ukraine and
Poland. This is likely to be Modi’s final official meeting with Biden, who has
announced that he will not be running for re-election.
Following the request of the US side to host the
Quad Summit this year, India has agreed to host the next Quad Summit in 2025.
