Dhaka, 17 Sep (HS):- USA’s Deputy Secretary of
Foreign Affairs Richard R Verma said the people of Bangladesh will have to decide
on electing a new government or allowing the interim government to continue.
Verma on
Monday was replying to the questions raised by journalists in Washington DC
after returning from the Dhaka tour. He said, the US is committed to extend humanitarian
help to Bangladesh. It is premature to speak about the direction in which
Bangladesh is moving. He expressed hope that the situation would be normal
soon.
Verma expressed concern over attacks on minorities
and said attacks on any citizen is unacceptable. The issue should be taken very
seriously. He also spoke about the achievements in US-India relations after
2000. Verma has worked as the US Ambassador to India from 2015 to 2017.
