Chirang (Assam), 29 April (HS): The court of Special Judge C Chaturvedi of Chirang District Sessions Court sentenced assistant teacher Deepak Kumar Bhagat, accused of molesting a Class VII student inside the classroom in Basugaon of Chirang district, to five years of imprisonment under POSCO Act on Monday. A fine of Rs 20,000 was also imposed and in case of failure to pay the amount, an additional punishment of two months was given.

It is noteworthy that a group of parents had beaten up assistant teacher Deepak Kumar Bhagat and handed him over to the police for allegedly trying to molest a minor girl. After the news of the incident was broadcast, there was a strong reaction to the incident across the state.
