Jammu, 24 April (HS): Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, GOC-in-C Northern Command, on Wednesday conducted an inspection of the counter-terrorism training being provided to Jammu and Kashmir Police Probationer Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) at the Army’s Corps Battle School in Bhaderwah.

A total of 1,114 PSIs, including 146 women, are currently undergoing rigorous training in guerrilla warfare to meet the contemporary and forthcoming security challenges in the region.

This training session marks a significant first, as noted by an Army spokesperson, highlighting the largest single-instance training of J&K Police officers by the Army, aimed at bolstering their tactical and operational readiness.

During his visit, Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar observed live firing exercises and counter-terrorism drills performed by the trainees, praising the dedication and skill exhibited by both the participants and their instructors. He encouraged continued efforts towards achieving professional excellence.

The training not only enhances skills but also fosters better coordination between the Army and the J&K Police.

Trainees shared their experiences with the media, expressing that the training has greatly increased their confidence and readiness to handle complex situations effectively.

“The joint training has instilled a deep sense of confidence right from the start of our careers, and it’s evident in our improved capabilities and behaviour,” said Sonalika Sharma, a trainee PSI.

Anshul Dubey, another trainee, emphasized the significance of this joint training in enhancing collaborative efforts, which is crucial for maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army Commander also felicitated the outstanding achievers amongst the trainee PSIs undergoing the training since March 18, 2024.

He stressed the importance of maintaining physical fitness to effectively respond to security challenges.

He commended the inclusion of a substantial number of female trainees, noting it as a pivotal step towards inclusive training efforts.

He said the collaboration between Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police shows the joint commitment of the forces to secure a peaceful and prosperous future for Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing a unified front against threats to regional security.
