New Delhi, 5 May (HS): Seventy five delegates from 23 countries are in India to observe the Indian general elections as part of the International Election Visitors Program (IEVP).

The program was inaugurated in New Delhi on Sunday in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. Addressing the delegates, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the efforts of the Indian Election and the Election Commission are the best in the world.

They hold an important place in the democratic field of India. This is very, very important in terms of process and efficiency. He said that the Indian constituency is unique. Here both electoral registration and voting are not mandatory. In such a situation, the Election Commission has to work completely as a motivator. Inviting citizens to voluntarily become a part of the electoral roll and then motivating them to exercise their franchise through systematic voter awareness programmes. On the sidelines of the event, the Commission also met the Chief Election Commissioners of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Nepal and also held bilateral talks with their delegation. Earlier in the day, the delegates were briefed on various aspects of the Indian General Elections 2024 including EVM-VVPAT, IT initiatives, role of media and social media.
