New Delhi, 30 December (HS): Indian fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah has left behind legends like Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev by setting many records during the ongoing 'Boxing Day' Test match between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Bumrah has become Asia's second-highest wicket-taker in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia (Army) conditions. He has left behind the great leg-spinner Anil Kumble in this matter.

Kumble had 141 wickets and 31-year-old Bumrah now has 143 wickets, making him the second-highest wicket-taker in Asia in ARMY conditions, surpassing Kumble. He is now only behind Pakistan's Wasim Akram, who has 146 wickets in these conditions.

Bumrah also surpassed Kumble's record of taking the most wickets by an Indian bowler on a foreign ground. Kumble had taken 20 wickets in five innings at Sydney Cricket Ground, while Bumrah now has 24 wickets in just three matches at MCG at an average of 15.26, which also includes the feat of taking five wickets twice.

Continuing his excellent form in the current series, Bumrah took his total number of wickets to 30 at an average of 13.24, which also includes three five-wicket hauls. During the second innings, Bumrah took 5 wickets for 57 runs in 24.4 overs at an economy rate of 2.33. He dismissed Sam Consta, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey and Nathan Lyon. Bumrah also completed his 200th Test wicket in the match and became the fastest Indian to achieve the feat. He also became the first player to take 200 Test wickets with an average under 20, surpassing West Indies legends Joel Garner, Curtly Ambrose and Fred Trueman in terms of bowling average.

The 31-year-old bowled 8484 balls to become the fastest Indian to take 200 Test wickets. Overall, he became the fourth fastest bowler to take 200 Test wickets after Waqar Younis, Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada. Younis holds the record of taking 200 Test wickets in just 7725 balls. Steyn reached the milestone in 7848 balls, while Rabada reached the milestone in 8153 balls.

Apart from this, Bumrah also left behind legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev and became the Indian bowler to take the most international wickets against Australia in Australia. In 21 matches in Australia, Bumrah has taken 76 wickets at an average of 19.74, with his best performance being 6/33 and taking five wickets four times. In contrast, Kapil Dev has taken 72 wickets in 31 international matches against Australia at an average of 25.44.
