Guwahati, 27 December (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal have expressed deep condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Chief Minister Dr. Sarma wrote on social media, Since 1991, I have had the privilege of being in the company of Dr. Manmohan Singh. In the same year, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Assam for the first time and represented the state for 28 years. His humility and intellectuality were inspiring.
He said, During his tenure as Prime Minister, I had the opportunity to discuss with him several times on issues related to Assam. His role in the beginning of the free market economy in India and the end of reactionary policies has been historic.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also expressed deep condolences on the demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh and said, Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh inspired everyone with his humility and scholarship. He played an important role in the economic revival of India. The far-reaching impact of his policies was clearly visible on public welfare.
The country and Assam have felt an irreparable loss with the demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh.
