New Delhi, December 22 (HS): The Indian Navy is going to organize a memorable program on December 30 to honor the invaluable contribution of civilian personnel in operational preparedness. The program will be held at Dr. DS Kothari Auditorium of DRDO Bhawan, in which Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will attend as the chief guest. This program underlines the commitment of the Indian Navy to recognize the important role of its civilian personnel in the maritime security and operations of the nationIn fact, civilian personnel constitute about one-third of the total workforce of the Indian Navy, who make significant contributions in all areas of the Navy. These civilian personnel serve in Naval Command Headquarters, Dockyards, Material Organisations, Naval Ordnance Depots, Naval Armament Inspectorates, Training Establishments and a variety of other support units. Hence, to enhance organisational efficiency, it was envisaged to enhance their administration, training and welfare etc. so that they can effectively contribute to the Indian Navy's ever-ready, credible, cohesive and future-ready force.

Indian Navy had declared 2024 as the 'Year of Naval Civilians' in February last year to enhance the efficiency of its civilian personnel in administration and welfare. Hence, in the current year, a number of measures were taken with the objective of improving human resource management and professional and personal development of civilian personnel in a time-bound manner. During the year, several initiatives were implemented to enhance administrative efficiency, adopt digital transformation, launch innovative training programmes and promote welfare activities. These include provision of insurance cover for civilian personnel working on ships at sea, anchorage and extension of CGHS facilities to 21 industrial units in Mumbai.

The ‘Year of Naval Civilians’ also saw the launch of e-HRMS version 2.0 for Gazetted Officers of the Navy. In view of digital and administrative modernisation, the Naval Civilian Management Information System website was revamped, which includes online modules. Apart from this, emphasis was laid on training and development for civilian personnel through organizing special workshops and training programmes. MoU has been signed with Bajaj Life Insurance for life insurance of civilian personnel and Defence Salary Package has been enhanced for all Naval Civilians.
