Hooghly, 20 December (H.S.): After the intervention of the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the agitation of casual workers of Hooghly-Chinsurah Municipality ended on Friday. The agitating casual workers have been assured that their pending salary will be paid in the next four days. After that, the agitation of casual workers, going on for the last twenty days, ended on Friday. As per information, the salary will be paid from the loan of three rupees crores received from the state government. At the same time, the temporary workers said that the garbage will be cleaned from Chuchura city by December 25. Notably, after not getting salary for the last two months, the temporary workers had stopped work and started agitation, due to which the civic services in the municipal area had come to a standstill. Heaps of garbage had accumulated in many areas of the city. To end the deadlock, the Chief Minister's Office and the concerned department held a high-level meeting. Chuchura MLA Asit Majumdar was given the responsibility of solving the problem. MLA Asit Majumdar discussed the issue with Chairman Amit Roy and other public representatives at the local level. After that, a solution was found in a meeting with the representatives of casual workers.
After the meeting, MLA Asit Majumdar said that a loan of ₹3 crore has been sanctioned to pay the dues of casual workers. The dues of the employees will be paid from this money. To avoid recurrence of such problems in future, other measures are also being considered to increase the revenue source of the municipality. The MLA said, Hooghly-Chinsurah Municipality spends ₹1.5 crore per month to pay salaries to temporary employees. But the income of the municipality is ₹60 to 70 lakh. This problem occurred for the municipality is being able to raise the remaining money. We sympathize with the temporary employees. They also have families. But the district headquarters cannot remain filled with garbage like this.
