19 December (H.S.): A report of electricity theft has been registered on
Thursday against Samajwadi Party MP from Sambhal Lok Sabha Ziaur Rahman Burq
and his late grandfather former MP Shafiqur Rahman Burq after finding a fault
in the electricity meter installed in the name of MP Ziaur Rehman Burq. Today,
the electricity department team that came to investigate found more load than
the prescribed load in the MP's house. The team was also threatened by his
family members about taking action. Sambhal's Regional Superintending Engineer
Vinod Kumar Gupta said that the old meter from the residence of MP Ziaur Rahman
Burq has been removed and sealed, it will be sent to the lab and tested. If any
irregularity is found in the investigation, action will be taken accordingly.
On Thursday afternoon, a team of the Electricity Department along with
policemen and Rapid Action Force reached the residence of SP MP Ziaur Rahman
Burq in Sambhal. When the team checked the load of the house and the electrical
appliances installed in the house, they found many irregularities. According to
departmental officials, the meter reading of the MP's residence, load of AC,
fan and other electrical appliances were also checked. The load on the
electricity meter was more than the rated load. This is a direct case of
electricity theft. A report of electricity theft has been lodged against MP
Ziaur Rahman Burq on behalf of Vinod Kumar Gupta, Superintending Engineer of
the Electricity Department.
The Superintending Engineer said that the smart
meter has been installed at the MP's residence and the old meter has been
sealed. This meter will be tested. During preliminary investigation, a fault
was found in the meter unit.
