Rajya Sabha Adjourned Amidst Opposition Protests

New Delhi, 29 November (H.S.): On Friday, the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day as opposition MPs protested against the rejection of adjournment notices.

The notices were filed under Rule 267 of the House for a discussion on allegations of corruption against the Adani Group and violence in Manipur and Sambhal.

However, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected all 17 notices, leading to a protest by opposition MPs who began raising slogans.

Dhankhar expressed his anguish and called for deep reflection as Rule 267 was being used as a means of disruption. This was met with opposition from Congress MPs as well. The Chairman then adjourned the proceedings for the day, stating that similar issues had been raised repeatedly resulting in a loss of three working days. The notices were filed by members of various opposition parties, highlighting issues such as corruption allegations against Adani Group, communal violence in Sambhal, and ethnic clashes in Manipur.

This marked the fourth consecutive day in the ongoing Winter Session where the House was unable to conduct any substantial business. The House is set to meet again on Monday for further discussions and deliberations on these pressing matters.
