Bahsa (Assam), 25 October (HS): I urge the Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) to expand their focus beyond ration distribution, said BTCLA President Katiram Bodo while addressing the inaugural function of a one-day conference cum exhibition held on at Bathaufuri football ground opposite Baksa District Court. He encouraged the exploration of new ventures like horticulture and aquaculture and emphasised on the comprehensive development strategy of the sector led by BTR CEM Pramod Bodo, calling upon the participants to actively engage with the insights of experts.

Ukil Musahari, EM Cooperation lauded the increased participation of women and underlined the importance of skill development. He expressed commitment to support active societies and urged members to avail the available government schemes.

Rakesh Brahma, EM Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, discussed the potential of pig farming through scientific methods for financial sustainability and motivated the society members to set ambitious targets. Dr. Debjit Deka, subject expert of KVK Baksa, elaborated on the income-generating potential of animal husbandry and invited farmers to attend training programmes to enhance their practice.

Jayanta Kherkatari of CHD Cooperation shared updates on the active implementation of central schemes including pearl production and horticulture initiatives. Dr. Dhritiranjan Roy, ADO Baksa, emphasised the opportunity for cooperative members to meet local feed demands through maize production and seed cultivation.

Rulen Hazarika, Vice President of Assam Pearl Development Cooperative Society, highlighted the growing market for pearls. Akbar Ali Ahmed, renowned farmer and entrepreneur, shared his experiences of dragon fruit, sweet lime and malta cultivation, and encouraged farmers to take training for better yields. Sunil Brahm of SBI RSETI, Baksa informed about the various free training programmes available including tailoring and goat rearing. Dr. Navnita Pathak, DRCS Baksa extended a warm welcome to all the attendees.

The day-long conference also witnessed the ceremonial distribution of 1000 Masals to Saranbil Cooperative Society, provision of printer-cum-photocopy machines to four cooperative societies, and ten stalls showcasing the products of various cooperative societies, including organic goods, handicrafts and food items.
