New Delhi, 23 October (H.S.):
Indian equity indices ended lower on Wednesday. The
Sensex fell 138 points to 80,081, whereas the Nifty dropped 36 points to 24,435.
IT stocks gained over 2 per cent, while capital goods, power, and pharma
sectors lost 1 per cent each.
Bajaj Finance and Tech Mahindra were top gainers.
On the back of mixed global cues, the Indian indices
opened on a negative note with Nifty below 24400, but buying at lower levels
erased all the losses in the initial hour and traded in positive territory.
However, final hour selling dragged the Nifty below 24,450. The BSE Midcap
index up 0.5 percent and Small cap indices up 1 percent.
