- Durga Idol immersion program going on smoothly

Guwahati, 13 October (HS): People bid farewell to Maa Durga on Sunday. The idols of Maa Durga along with Go with tearful eyes. Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati, Lord Ganesha and Kartik as well as Mahishasur were immersed in water by the Puja committees at various ghats as per the rules laid down by the administration, after taking them from their respective pandals.

After the Pran Pratishtha of the idols of Maa Durga on the day of Shashthi, the entire atmosphere remained devotional and festive on Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and Dashami. Today, when the idols of the Durga were taken out of the Puja pandals, the eyes of the people were filled with tears. Immersion of Durga idols was done across the state.

The idols are being immersed in water at various places across the state including Dhubri, Tezpur, Pandu Ghat of Guwahati, Lachit Ghat, Chandrapur etc. The idols are being immersed in the presence of thousands of devotees. Meanwhile, several guidelines have been issued by the local police and the district administration for this period.

Apart from this, SDRF and NDRF personnel have been deployed at the ghats for the convenience of the devotees.

It is worth mentioning that since Vijayadashami Tithi is being celebrated from Saturday, the idol of the goddess was immersed at some places on Saturday itself.

At the same time, today on this auspicious occasion, sad news came of the idol of the goddess being broken in Sargaon of Marangi in Golaghat district. There is tension among the devotees due to this act being carried out by unknown miscreants on Saturday night. Everyone has condemned such actions of miscreants on the night before the proposed immersion of idols on Sunday. However, Golaghat police have detained a person named Aman Barak in connection with this incident.

It is worth mentioning that idol immersion is taking place at a total of 27 ghats in Guwahati city since yesterday. Out of these 27 ghats prepared by the district administration, idol immersion was done by 55 puja committees on many ghats on Saturday. At the same time, today a total of 263 Puja committees are immersing idols at various ghats of the city. On Monday also 13 Puja committees will immerse idols at many ghats of the city. Today 123 Puja committees will immerse idols at Kachmari Ghat (Lachit Ghat) of the city.

The immersion program is going on in a beautiful and systematic manner. It will continue till late night. Similarly, today 29 Puja committees immersed idols at Saukuchi Ghat of the city, 11 at Vashishtha Ghat, 10 at Chunshali Ghat, 15 at Pandu Ghat, 24 at Dhapaliya Ghat. Similarly, tomorrow also a total of 13 Puja committees of the city will immerse their idols in water, including one at Kachmari Ghat, 11 at Pandu Ghat, one at Dharapur Ghat.

The administration is closely monitoring all the arrangements to ensure that the immersion program is conducted smoothly and in a disciplined manner. Security has been tightened by deploying police at various places. In this way, Shardiya Durgaotsav concluded today. Maa Durga, who arrived in a palanquin, today left the devotees teary-eyed and went to Kailash on a horse.
