Bulldozer action near Somnath temple: Contempt case filed in SC

New Delhi, October 1 (HS): The matter of bulldozer action near Somnath temple has reached the Supreme Court. The contempt petition filed in the court states that even after the Supreme Court's order to stop the bulldozer action, large-scale demolition action has been taken. Contempt action has been demanded against the collector and other officials of Gir Somnath.

It is noteworthy that on September 30, the Supreme Court ordered a ban on the bulldozer action going on in the Sonapur area of Assam. On September 17, the Supreme Court in its order had banned the bulldozer action being taken in various states, curbing the 'bulldozer justice' being used as a punishment for the accused. The Supreme Court had said that till the next hearing, no bulldozer action will be taken during this period without the permission of the court. However, the court had clarified that if there is any kind of encroachment on a public road, footpath or railway line, then it can be removed. There is no restriction on its removal.
