Udalguri (Assam), 1 October (HS): A woman has been killed by attacking her with an axe on suspicion of being a witch in Chhayabasti village of North Garuvajhar in Udalguri district. The woman has been identified as Punia Orang. The killer surrendered at Paneri police station. Police have registered an FIR in this regard and are investigating the case.

It is worth mentioning that in Kokrajhar district also, a woman was killed recently on suspicion of being a witch. In the same district, three families of a village were ostracized from the society for the last three years on suspicion of being witches.
