Delhi, 26 January (H.S): Young Liu, the CEO and Chairman of Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn Group, was honored with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, on the eve of India's 75th Republic Day.
Liu is the only foreigner among the list of 17 recipients this year, as announced by the Indian government. Under his leadership, Foxconn began producing iPhones in India in 2019, after he took over from Terry Gou as CEO and chairman in June of that year. With a workforce of over 40,000 employees, Foxconn has plans to double its workforce this year and has a turnover of more than USD 10 billion in India.
The company has invested USD 8 billion in India to date and is currently setting up an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test joint venture with HCL Group with an initial investment of USD 37.2 million. With a career spanning over three decades, Liu has founded three successful companies, including a motherboard company, a semiconductor design company focused on PC chipsets, and an ADSL IC design company. He holds an MS degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California and a BS degree in Electrophysics from Taiwan's National Chiao Tung University.
The Padma Bhushan recognition is a testament to Liu's contributions to the Indian electronics industry and his commitment to strengthening ties between India and Taiwan.
