Jammu, 09 August (H.S.): Residents of Budhi village staged a strong protest against the proposed construction of a road from Barnoti to the industrial area. The protesters alleged that a route being used by local residents for years to access their homes and agricultural land is now being allegedly taken over for industrial use.

The residents claimed that efforts are being made to develop a road nearly 60 to 70 feet wide, which they said would not be accepted under any circumstances.

According to them, the existing route is meant for the convenience and daily movement of local residents and should not be used for industrial activities or the movement of heavy vehicles.

Former Sarpanch, Biki Sharma said that local residents had built their homes around the road with their hard-earned money, expecting access to proper roads and other basic facilities. He said the route from Barnoti towards Ghati is a major means of connectivity for the local population, but its condition is already poor. Due to the limited width of the road, residents are facing considerable difficulties in their daily travel.

The residents expressed concern that if heavy vehicles belonging to a cement plant or other industries are allowed to use the route, the problems faced by the local population could increase further. They particularly highlighted concerns for e-rickshaw drivers, street vendors and pedestrians who regularly use the road.

The protesters appealed to the administration to consider the concerns of the local population before allowing the route to be used for industrial purposes. They made it clear that they would not allow the road to be used for the industrial complex under any circumstances and said they would continue their protest until their demands are addressed.
