GurSevak Singh was attacked with an axe and sharp-edged weapon; police probe possible link with earlier assaultMohali, 09 August (H.S.): GurSevak Singh, headmaster of a government school in Kumbhra, Mohali, died during treatment on Sunday morning, three days after he was brutally attacked outside his residence in Sunny Enclave, Kharar.According to preliminary information, unidentified assailants arrived in a white car and attacked Singh with an axe and a sharp-edged weapon while he was standing outside his house. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he remained under treatment for three days before succumbing to his injuries.Police have intensified the investigation, though the identity of the attackers and the motive behind the assault are yet to be established.Singh was living with his family in Sunny Enclave. Three days ago, while he was outside his house, a group of unidentified men allegedly arrived in a white car and launched a sudden attack on him.After carrying out the assault, the accused fled the spot in the same vehicle. Local residents informed the police and Singh was shifted to hospital in a critical condition.Singh, 48, was posted as headmaster at the government school in Kumbhra and was also reportedly handling responsibilities related to smart schools in the district.Police inspected the spot outside Singh’s residence and recreated the crime scene to understand the sequence of events. Investigators are trying to determine the route taken by the attackers before and after the assault. CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is also being examined to trace the white car and identify the suspects.According to Singh’s colleagues, he had allegedly been attacked in Sector 71 around one-and-a-half months ago. The assailants in that incident were also not identified.Following his death, police are now examining whether there is any connection between the two attacks.Singh is survived by his wife, who is also a teacher, and their 16-year-old son, a Class XI student.Police are probing old enmity, personal dispute and other possible motives. Statements of family members, friends and colleagues are being recorded as part of the investigation. Efforts are also underway to trace the vehicle used by the assailants and identify those involved in the attack.
