New Delhi, 07 August (H.S.): Travelling on Delhi’s roads is set to become safer as motorists will now receive advance alerts about accident-prone areas along their routes. The Delhi Traffic Police has decided to launch a technology-driven initiative to strengthen road safety. Under this initiative, drivers will receive alerts through Google Maps and MapmyIndia when they approach identified accident-prone zones on Delhi roads. The digital mapping platforms will also provide information about the prescribed maximum speed limits on various roads across the national capital.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijyanta Goyal Arya said on Friday that the Traffic Police believes timely information about potential road hazards and speed limits will encourage drivers to remain more cautious. The initiative is expected to help reduce road accidents and vehicle collisions. It will be particularly useful in preventing accidents caused by overspeeding or driving at speeds unsuitable for prevailing road conditions.
Alerts to Be Issued Near Accident-Prone Areas
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, several locations across the city have been identified where the risk of accidents is relatively high. Information related to these identified accident-prone zones will be integrated with digital navigation platforms.
Whenever a driver approaches such a location, an alert will be issued through Google Maps and MapmyIndia. The objective is to make drivers aware in advance so that they can control their speed and drive cautiously according to road conditions.
Under the new initiative, details of the maximum permissible speed limits on Delhi roads will also be made available through digital mapping platforms. This will allow drivers to easily know the applicable speed limit on the road they are travelling on. The Traffic Police expects that the move will encourage compliance with speed regulations and help reduce accidents caused by excessive speed.
The Delhi Traffic Police is already using technology for road monitoring and traffic management. Through these systems, efforts are being made to provide motorists with timely information about road conditions, traffic congestion, high-traffic areas, diversions, road closures and other traffic-related developments.
This information enables commuters to plan their journeys better and choose alternative routes whenever required.
Partnership with Google India and MapmyIndia
To implement this new road safety initiative, the Delhi Traffic Police has collaborated with Google India and MapmyIndia. Road safety-related information will be integrated into digital navigation platforms.
The police aim to use technology to provide motorists with timely, useful and actionable information that can directly help them make safer decisions while driving.
