Lucknow, Aug 7 (HS): Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited

the exhibition of handloom products at Lok Bhavan on the occasion of National

Handloom Day-2026 and honored outstanding weavers with Sant Kabir State Level

Handloom Award. The Chief Minister distributed financial assistance cheques to

beneficiaries of the Chief Minister's Handloom and Powerloom Industries

Development Scheme and the Jhalkari Bai Kori Handloom and Powerloom Development

Scheme. Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were also exchanged with various

leading organizations to promote the marketing and export of handloom products.

While addressing the garthering UP CM said, “Our effort

should be - Not products made abroad, but rather those products that are

crafted by our artisans and handicrafters, we should offer them as gifts. Some

people remain 'kids' their whole lives, Babua did the same. That's why riots

would break out, curfews would last for months on end. Respected Prime Minister

Shri @narendramodi ji, wherever they go, they gift the products of UP's

artisans and craftsmen to the heads of state there. This is an honor for all

artisans and craftsmen.When we promote 'Swadeshi' products, India's money will

stay within India. This will bring prosperity to the faces of our artisans and

abundance to their lives. The 'Swadeshi' and handloom industry form the basis

of livelihood and self-reliance for more than 30 lakh people. We are all

grateful to the esteemed Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, who decided to

observe the date of 7 August as 'National Handloom Day'.”

Minister Rakesh Sachan presented the Chief Minister with a

handloom Radha-Krishna artwork and said the day celebrates India's weaving

tradition, indigenous culture, and the resolve for a self-reliant India. He

explained that more than three lakh handlooms operate in the state, and the

government is continuously working towards the economic, technical, and social

empowerment of weavers.

Financial assistance has been provided to 2,489 handloom and

1,315 powerloom weavers under the Chief Minister's Handloom and Powerloom

Industry Development Scheme, and to 2,796 handloom and 1,466 powerloom weavers

under the Jhalkari Bai Kori Handloom and Powerloom Development Scheme. The

Uttar Pradesh State Handloom Corporation has earned a profit of approximately

Rs 38 lakh this year, indicating the progress of the state's handloom sector.

The PM MITRA Mega Textile Park and the proposed Sant Kabir

Textile Parks will give a new impetus to the textile industry and create

employment opportunities. The Directorate of Handloom and Textile Industries,

Uttar Pradesh signed important MoUs with Handloom Export Promotion Council

(HEPC), Tanera (Tata Group), BTDC, International Fashion Business Exchange

Council (IFBEC) and other organizations.
