Chandigarh, 07 August (H.S.): The Punjab Government on Friday made an important change in the Amritsar police administration, assigning DIG Border Range Harmanbir Singh, IPS, the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Amritsar.

According to an order issued by the Punjab Department of Home Affairs, Harmanbir Singh, a 2010-batch IPS officer, will continue to serve as DIG Border Range, Amritsar, while also holding the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Amritsar. He has been given the responsibility in place of Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, IPS. The transfer and posting orders have been issued on administrative grounds with immediate effect.

The government has directed Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, a 2004-batch IPS officer, to report to the office of the Director General of Police, Punjab, until further orders. His new posting orders will be issued separately.

The officers concerned have also been directed to assume charge at their new places of posting immediately. The order stated that the administrative reshuffle has been carried out with the approval of the competent authority.

The order, dated August 7, 2026, was issued in Chandigarh by Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, Principal Secretary to the Government of Punjab, Department of Home Affairs.

Copies of the order have been forwarded to the Union Home Secretary, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Director General of Police, Punjab, Department of Personnel and other concerned authorities for information and necessary action.
