New Delhi, 07 August (H.S.): Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Friday announced at the beginning of the House proceedings that the Delhi Assembly has invited the Digital India Bhashini Division to conduct a pilot trial of its artificial intelligence (AI)-based live transcription and translation system during legislative proceedings. The initiative aims to assess the potential of modern technology in improving efficiency, transparency and productivity in legislative functioning.
Vijender Gupta said that Bhashini, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Digital India Week held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, in July 2022, is the National Language Translation Mission. Its objective is to provide every citizen in the country with seamless access to digital public services and the internet in their preferred Indian language. The AI-powered platform is playing an important role in strengthening multilingual governance and promoting digital inclusion.
He said that this is the first pilot deployment of Bhashini’s live transcription and translation system in any legislative House in the country. He added that the initiative reflects the Delhi Assembly’s commitment towards innovation and adoption of advanced technologies, which can make legislative proceedings more effective, transparent and accessible in the future.
Gupta said that the pilot trial will be conducted entirely on an evaluation basis. The quality of transcription and the overall performance of the system will be reviewed in detail. All feedback and technical challenges identified during the trial will be addressed. Based on the feedback received, the system will be further refined and customised according to the requirements of the Delhi Assembly.
He expressed confidence that if the pilot trial proves successful, the Delhi Assembly will explore the possibility of adopting similar AI-enabled solutions in other functional departments as well, making the functioning of the House more modern and technology-driven.
