Bhubaneswar, 07 August (H.S.): The Odisha State Transgender Welfare Board convened its inaugural meeting on Thursday, with a strong focus on ensuring the protection, rights, and social inclusion of the transgender community.

State Minister Nityananda Gond, who oversees Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, chaired the meeting.

The primary objectives of the meeting were to safeguard the rights of transgender persons, promote social justice, and ensure dignified living conditions and equal opportunities. Discussions encompassed various existing welfare schemes, and suggestions were solicited to enhance future benefits and support systems for the community.

The Minister stated that necessary directives would be issued to the relevant departments to take immediate action on identified areas. He also assured that the proposals discussed during the meeting would be implemented in a phased manner.

Reiterating the government's commitment to inclusive development, he emphasized that providing equal opportunities and welfare measures to all sections of society remains a top priority. He acknowledged that transgender individuals have often faced neglect and affirmed that the government would not overlook their rights, safety, dignity, and progress.

The Minister further announced that meetings of the Transgender Welfare Board would be held regularly to review initiatives and ensure continuous dialogue on issues concerning the community.
