Guwahati, 06 August (HS): Volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), along with members of affiliated organisations, are continuing extensive rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected districts of Upper Assam. Since July 20, around 1,912 volunteers have assisted nearly 40,168 families across 378 villages in the worst-hit districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat.

According to the RSS, volunteers have been engaged in rescue work, distribution of relief materials, house repair, sanitation drives and rehabilitation efforts. In severely affected areas such as Kakati Gaon, D-Gaon, No. 2 Konwar Gaon, Nepali Khuti, Bihubar and Chetia Kaibarta Gaon in Sivasagar district, volunteers reportedly rescued more than 200 people and shifted them to safer locations and relief camps.

Relief teams have been using small boats to reach marooned families in inundated localities, including Sundar Pokhori, Bamun Pokhori, Gelki and Rajabari, delivering cooked food, drinking water, medicines, clothing and other essential supplies. Similar assistance is also being provided in several flood-hit areas of Jorhat district.

The relief materials distributed include rice, pulses, sugar, salt, baby food, potatoes, clothing, utensils, tarpaulins, candles, mosquito coils, dry food, biscuits, soap, alum, drinking water and essential medicines.

With support from the National Medicos Organisation (NMO), volunteers have also organised more than 50 medical camps to provide healthcare services to flood-affected residents. Besides relief distribution, volunteers are helping families clean homes, repair damaged houses, assist farmers in preparing fields for cultivation, and provide fodder for livestock.

The RSS said its volunteers remain engaged round the clock in humanitarian service, extending support to affected communities as they recover from one of the worst floods to hit Upper Assam in recent weeks. ----------
